いつの時代もプレミアムセダンの指標とされてきたメルセデス・ベンツ「Eクラス」が、7年ぶりにフルモデルチェンジ。伝統と革新を融合した全く新しい内外装を採用するとともに、メルセデス・ベンツの持つさまざまな革新技術を駆使し、「デザイン性」・「安全性」・「快適性」・「環境適合性」というキーワードとともにさらなる向上を遂げ新型「Eクラス」としてデビューした。
最も成功したプレミアムセダンとして、1947年の導入から世界で累計1,000万台を販売する実績を誇るメルセデス・ベンツ「Eクラス」。そのラインナップは、3.0リッターV型6気筒DOHCエンジンを搭載する「E 300」「E 300アバンギャルド」、3.5リッターV型6気筒DOHCエンジンを搭載する「E 350 アバンギャルド」、そして5.5リッターV型8気筒DOHCエンジンを搭載する「E 550 アバンギャルド」の4グレードでの構成。価格は730～1,080万円、当初は左ハンドル仕様車のみの展開で、8月初旬より右ハンドル仕様車の供給を予定している。
